7TH PAY COMMISSION: HRD MINISTRY FORMS PANEL TO REVIEW UGC RECOMMENDATIONS

 

The human resource and development (HRD) ministry has formed a committee to review the recommendations made by a University Grants Commission (UGC) panel on implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in educational institutions.

The development comes against the backdrop of teachers’ associations of various universities threatening to go on strike over the “delay” in implementation after the UGC panel submitted its report earlier this year.

The Bombay High Court today asked the state government whether there was a policy or scheme in place for children born to victims of rape. The division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai also sought to know whether the state is contemplating an increase in the compensation to be provided under the Manodhairya Scheme. Manodhairya Scheme was launched on October 2, 2013; it envisages compensation as well as rehabilitation of rape survivors and acid attack victims.

SC UPHOLDS BIHAR NOTIFICATION AUTHORISING COPS BELOW DYSP RANK TO PROBE SC/ST ACT OFFENCES

The Supreme Court, in State of Bihar vs Anil Kumar, has upheld a notification issued by the Bihar Government, authorising all the officers of the rank of police inspector, sub-inspector of police and assistant sub-inspector of police to investigate cases filed under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, within the state of Bihar. The notification, which was challenged before the Patna High Court, allowed the investigative process, under the SC/ST Act.
