Introduction

LAW degree has always been a most respected course to study among all the professional courses. Law degree is the first and foremost step towards the legal sector and often followed by carrier opportunities towards legal solicitor or advisor. Other than becoming advocates, solicitor or legal advisor students of law are desirable for the various field like media and law, social work, politics, public service commission and many more. It is the legal study which is the source to learn disciplines and various career opportunities in the future.

Although this course has a wider opportunity in the field of legal education, but there are some aspects which need to be kept in mind while looking to pursue the degree. Here are some reasons for pursuing BA LLB course.

Who pursues a BA LLB degree?

Pursuing law to defend a person's rights is an honorable profession and a particular person includes living and non- living who has some legal existence.This is an integrated course which provides a graduation degree in any stream along with a law degree. Bachelor of Arts/science/commerce/social working/ business administration + Bachelor of Laws is a five-year course so that it can save the year by undertaking this integrated course as a study option. The number of subjects to be studied in a five-year course is more than a three-year course and this is a big advantage for the student who has a clear and defined career vision. Admission to most of the top universities is done through a university entrance test.

Eligibility criteria for BA LLB:

As it is a graduation course, the minimum criteria is 10+2 equivalent exam or 50% marks in 12th class from a recognized board. The main source to this exam is an Law entrance exam and students await after their senior secondary exam result.

Some of the important entrance exams are CLAT (National Level Exam), AILET, DU law entrance test. There are some other Universities which hold their own entrance tests. Lloyd Law College holds its own LET (Lloyd Entrance Test) which is conducted every year for admission to the Law School. The test takes place in two rounds, one is a written entrance, if the candidate qualifies written examination, they are called for an interview round.

Details of the course:

The entire course is of five years and each year is divided into two semester. So a total of ten semesters are there. It covers the subject related to respective graduation courses such as for Humanities, there are subjects like Economics, History, Sociology, Political Science,and some subjects of specialized fields like: Criminal Law, Administrative Law, Tax Law, Corporate Law, International Law, and Labor Law etc.

Carrier options:

Advocate-

A graduate of BA LLB can opt for litigation as a career option. After receiving the law degree you can enroll yourself to any state bar council like a person who registered himself in Delhi bar council he/she can practice in Delhi if a person wants to practice all over India he/she can appear for All India Bar Examination and after passing this exam you can practice as a lawyer in India.

Government sector-

Union Public Service Commission (UPSE) is an examination by which the services are provided in the government sector. The graduates from these integrated courses can also sit in this examination. This is a great opportunity to serve the country and the public at large.

Judiciary

Judiciary exam is one of the most prestigious exams in the country and profession in Legal Fraternity- the Judge. After graduating, students can sit in this examination of PCS (J) OR HSJ. As it is a very tough exam to crack, but indeed a prestigious post to handle as a citizen of the country.

Pursue further studies (LLM)/ Academics-

LLM is one of the professions that involves an extensive method of research. One can pursue research fellowship programs after the completion of masters. If chosen then one can get a scholarship by the government to study abroad. And to teach in any law college one should have a master’s degree and should qualify NET (National Eligibility Test) Qualification.

Corporate Sector-

The corporate sector is a part and parcel of the city. And there are many Multinational Companies in need of legal advisors, a candidate can choose to work in multinational corporations as well. Most of the students want to work in the corporate sector when they are in a law college.The starting package for the students of NALSAR and NLSIU Bangalore or any top 5 NLUS’is INR 7 lacs in the respected firm like Amarchand Mangaldas, Luthra and Luthra, etc.

Legal Researcher-

A legal researcher is one who finds various cases and different ways of finding and winning the cases. Lawyers hire them for any deep legal knowledge and solutions of any case.

Politics-

 There is a deep connection between Law and Politics. One can take part in the governance of the country as there is no minimum qualification for the politician and any law graduates can enter this field. Since the lawyer has a profound knowledge about the three-tier of government – legislature, executive and judiciary. As in the twenty-first century, the influence of law has only increased. The knowledge of law plays a very important role in the development of Indian politics.

Carrier in media after law degree-

Working as a journalist is not only socially pertinent but also carries a promise of being fiscally rewarding. In the legal study, you are always equipped with legal writing, research skill and thorough knowledge of facts and figures. The skills one picks up at law school are more than sufficient for a journalist, what's more, it's on the job learning, that matters more.

It is the most respected and recognizable course among other various courses. In this field, a person has an endless opportunity by which he/she can achieve the ladder of success. Law is the course where we should focus on quality instead of quantity. Since there are considerable number of colleges in our country and each year, lacs of students graduate, therefore to the maintain the dignity and quality of this course we should focus on the more qualitative result.
