Quarantine Diaries: Pen-down in Lockdown National Essay Writing Competition, 2020
Lloyd Law College with a belief that the power of pen will help overcome isolation and help expand horizons through creativity organised ‘Quarantine Diaries: Pen-down in Lockdown’ National Essay Writing Competition, 2020. The competition was organised for youth and young adult students aged between 16 years - 24 years.
Considering the pandemic, Covid-19, has put the world on a pause it has been an experience for each and everyone across the world. It has taught different people different things. Every institution across the world has had its own learning. The youth and young adults are the hope and the future of life and the world. Lloyd Law College too thought of captivating the ideas in the minds and hearts of theirs which are mostly filled with positivity and hope amidst this crisis. When the whole world, with its experts, has created opinions on the changes in the socio-economic sphere, Lloyd Law College took this initiative to capture the dreams and thoughts of the youth and the young adults.
The competition was open for participants across 16-24 years age and this was divided into three categories, 16-18 years, 19-21 years and 21-24 years of age where the word limit was 500, 750, 1000 words respectively. Each category had four topics revolving around mental health, economics, domestic violence, politics, and law where the present and the future effects of the pandemic may be looked at.
The competition was announced on 20th April, 2020 with a minimal registration fee of Rs 50. The last date for registration and submission were 3rd May and 9th May, 2020, respectively. The result of the competition was announced on 15th May, 2020.
The Organizing Committee was overwhelmed by the response it got. A total of 446 registrations across India were received and over 350 essays were submitted. The Organizing Committee made sure that each essay be evaluated by the expert of that particular topic thus each of the 12 topics was evaluated by the expert of its subject.
The competition's most valued attraction was the Prize money of Rs 50,000. This was distributed amongst the top three positions in each category. Under Category A and B the First prize was Rs. 9,000, Second Rs.7,000 and Third Rs.4,000. Under Category C, the awards were Rs. 5,000; Rs. 3,000; and Rs. 2,000for positions First, Second and Third respectively. Lloyd Law College also announced awards of Scholarship to the authors of the top 10 essays in each category.
The author who secured one of the top 10 positions and takes admission in B.A.LL.B or LL. B program in the academic year 2020-2021 will be awarded Scholarship as 1st Position- 30%; 2nd Position- 25%; 3rd Position- 20%; 4th to 10th positions-15%. S/he will have to follow the due procedure for selection, appear for Entrance Examination and Personal Interview
The essays were received from across the country and from the best institutions, including the best law schools of the country.
Lloyd Law College amidst this Lockdown organized the first ever online Moot Court Competition, a unique competition of its kind across the globe. It was a fully online, paperless, no movement from home Moot Court Competition. The second competition of a similar kind is this Essay Writing Competition. Lloyd wishes to hold both these competitions every year and we hope to see you being a part of it next year too.
