The topic on which I am going to write is ‘Politics’. So, before talking deeper aspects of politics, firstly we must throw light on what is politics? Politics is a way, a process by which a Government comes into power in order to rule over a country. This is the simplest way as to define the term politics. Now dealing with our country India, politics was their even before Britishers came in early 1600s but it started to take its shape more profoundly during British era. The Britishers came in India by saying that they want to setup a company in India for trade and business but gradually with the course of time, as their financial status strengthened, they started to interfere into the local and personal matters of the local masses, creating tension and headache for the ruling princes and rajas.
It came at its worst when they started to threaten the ruling rajas and Mughal emperor, after Aurangzeb’s rule. What they wanted now was to have control over PAN India. They considered themselves religiously superior and treated Indians as inferior race. So, politics was their since that point of time too. Now, slowly they started to exploit Indians by heavy taxes and all and things were in their favour until the year 1857 when the country saw ‘First revolt of Independence’.
Thought after it, nothing much special happened until Gandhi started to take the charge by creating awareness among the masses and his non-violence movement. As Gandhi emerged, several other nationalists also joined him like Ashfaqullah Khan, Tilak, Subhash Chandra Bose, etc . This was the epitome of politics as Gandhi alone controlled the India and Britishers were also aware of his power at that point of time. Hence, not going much deeper , we finally got our Independence in 1947 and now India was free from slavery.
Indian National Congress was formed in 1880s. Pandit Nehru became first Prime Minister of India. And now it has been more than 70 years of us being independent as it was good politics at that point of time which gave us independence. But now the case is different. It is shifting towards a more manipulating kind of stuff like creating propagandas, misuse of media as well as social media and etc, etc.
We should think over it before its too late. In the constitution there is clearly written that India is a ‘secular state’ but I feel sorrow of what we are dealing in the present India and how the general mass is being manipulated and misguided and misuse of power is being practiced at its epitome. The public at its least can do is, it should be very specific of to whom your vote is being given because every vote counts. You should analyse your vote will choose which kind of leader, a progressive one or the one who is playing with your sentiments exactly just like the Britishers did.
Therefore at Lloyd Law College, I have found the ability to express my views and dissatisfaction with the way our current Indian socio-political discourse is moving as I have been able to participate in an array of workshops specially the CLEA Regional Conference on Freedom of Speech and Expression held from 5-6th Nov, 2016 at Lloyd Law College, Top llb colleges in delhi.
